Connecting Everything to a Soul

For I will not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me, resulting in the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed. (Ro. 15:18 NASB)

It seems as if, to Paul, anyway, nothing mattered except the fruit he had among the Gentiles. In other words, how many he had won to Christ. But when you think of it, he accomplished so much! He planted churches, preached like crazy, wrote a bunch of epistles, taught in the schools of Corinth and Ephesus, appointed elders, and I’m sure he’s made some killer tents along the way.

But he wanted to be known for one thing only. This is where he wanted the test strip, the litmus paper to be placed: “In what Christ had accomplished through him that resulted in non Christians getting saved. ”

That’s it.

At New Hope we call it, “Connecting everything to a soul.” Everything we do at New Hope must be somehow, connected to a soul. If people aren’t somehow, somewhere, coming to Christ because of an activity, we tweak it until it does. It might be a traditional activity or a fun project, but if people don’t somehow get closer to Christ and salvations aren’t anywhere in the recipe, then it won’t make the Celestial Times, the newspaper that’s delivered to the angels in heaven. You see, the Bible reminds us that “there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:10).

If there are no sinners repenting, then there’s no party.

As leaders, we must continue to strive for people coming to Christ in everything we do. We’ve got to constantly evaluate everything in the light of heaven and redemption. We cannot ever get caught up in simply being a caretaker for the convinced. We must trainers and equippes of the convinced so that they might become laborers in the harvest.

I am thankful that the Lord reminds me again and again that the harvest will not self reap, but it will self destruct if not reaped.
