The God of New Beginnings

God said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy laden.” Still, many remain without His help because that requires a willing heart. The Lord extends an invitation to every one of us. It doesn’t matter if we feel like we are a thousand miles away from God. He will take every step toward us except for the last step. That step is ours! When we take that step, there is a partnership and a relationship with the Lord. We can walk together with Him.

Why We Need New Beginnings

Our God is a God of new beginnings. All of us need new beginnings. We stumble and fumble and wish we could do it over again so God created us with the need for new beginnings.

God is a God of new beginnings, but we must come to Him for those new beginnings.

“And He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ And He said, ‘Write, for these words are faithful and true’” (Rev. 21:5).

God is making all things new. That’s His character. Although He is willing to do that, we must take the step toward Him in order for a partnership to be formed. It won’t be a relationship until it is a covenant that both agree upon.

Two Requirements:

Believe in Miracles. Miracles are what we pray for, what we yearn for and what we want. But sometimes, they simply don’t happen because we do not believe.

The issue isn’t whether or not God can do miracles. The real issue is: are our hearts ready to receive those miracles and to follow through?

We Must Follow His Lead! We’ve got to work together with Him. His miracles are the key that opens the door, but He won’t push us through that door. We’ve got to follow. We’ve got to obey. Obedience and following His lead are vital to God performing miracles.

God is saying to us, “I’ll open the doors for a new beginning, but you’ve got to follow me as I give you instruction. I know all that is in your future — My best for you. I want to deposit it into your life, into the way you think, into the way you do business, into your family. I want to give you My wisdom, My insight, My ability. That transfer can only occur through your obedience.”

That’s why God says obedience is really important. He knows our future and He will teach us and instruct us. We need to follow His lead.

The Three Steps:

  1. Break Through Quitting Points

We need new beginnings when we hit a quitting point. When we do, we must be willing to break through these points.

Christ made sure that we understood that death was no longer the quitting point. The tomb would no longer hold the Savior. He broke through that. God is saying, “I’m going to help you break through quitting points because the enemy wants you to give up. He wants to destroy you.”

“At all times carry faith as a shield; for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows shot by the evil one” (Eph. 6:16).

God wants us to be men and women of faith because He is going to help us break through quitting points that have caused us to bail out dozens of times and left relationships in shambles. This will happen again and again if we don’t break through those quitting points.

Here’s the dangerous thing: the enemy is like the commander of an attack submarine who stays behind us and at every turn he plots our movements on a map. When he detects a pattern, He simply destroys us when we show up at a predictable spot. Every time we bail out of this relationship, that commitment, that situation, a bad marriage—whatever that may be—he’s got us all plotted. He’s got a pattern of our life and he wants to nail us. If we fail to break through quitting points, the devil can actually direct our life!

  1. Correct Back to What Never Changes

When we are not sure what to do, we need to always correct back to that which never changes. Break through whatever obstacles there are and correct back to what God has said. That never changes! Correct back to what doesn’t change because life and situations change all the time.

“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right” (2 Tim. 3:16).

God’s scripture teaches us, gives us direction and it never changes. God’s Word is permanent! We can go insane if we don’t have the anchor of God’s Word.

  1. Have the Right Starting Point

We also need the right starting point. How do we develop the ears to hear God? How do we get to this right starting point? It starts with a decision — God took the 999 steps toward us, but our starting point is to take that last step toward Him. We can come to Him and ask Him to speak to us in such a way that we can hear Him. We can ask Him to help us have a heart that’s willing and open to the miraculous so that He will open the doors. We will walk through and will be able to follow Him as He deposits His life into us — our future into us.

Those who become Christians become new persons. A new life has begun. How do you get this new beginning?

“What this means is those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun” (2 Cor. 5:17).

Where does it all begin? By trusting Christ! The issue is with our willingness to comply with his requirements. Will we say, “Yes” to Him and trust in His ways? When that relationship is established, we call it salvation. It is becoming new, or becoming one in Christ. It starts with our decision.

We need to open our hearts to Christ! It is the most eternal decision we’ll ever make. It will give us a new beginning and it will guarantee an eternal ending.

All that Jesus has done on the cross is a gift — an invitation to us to follow Him. The Lord Himself invites us because He has a wonderful future for us. As we follow Him, He is able to deposit that future into our lives. There is no greater delight to our Father than to see His children walking in the truth. Say “yes” to Jesus today! He has a new beginning for us!
