Today’s Life Journal: The God Who Cares

The following is an entry from Pastor Wayne Cordeiro’s Life Journal.

SCRIPTURE:

“Do you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’? Who endowed the heart with wisdom or gave understanding to the mind? Who has the wisdom to count the clouds? Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens when the dust becomes hard and the clods of earth stick together?” (Job 38:35-38)

OBSERVATION:

“Do lightning bolts report to you?” …

I love the language that God uses as He joins Job and his friends in conversation. We are reminded of God’s vast omnipotence, measuring movement in units of the speed of light rather than in miles per hour. He holds Orion to its laser-light show and He can count clouds when we can hardly count days. Like supervising minimum wage employees, He tells seasons when to punch in and when to end their shift. We can’t even tell if it’s going to rain next week.

But sandwiched in between God’s stellar magnificence is hope for mankind… hope for me! He reminds me that even in the midst of overseeing he universe, he can also “”endow my heart with wisdom and give understanding to my mind.”” Shadowed by two other giant statements about God’s power is one seemingly obscure statement … That God cares for me and will even help me to comprehend His splendor.”

APPLICATION:

“God is not too busy for me. He knows my frame and He understands my needs. And although He designed and uploaded Pleiades, He cares whether or not I understand Him and He wants to know if I have enough wisdom for the challenges I will be facing today.

So what is the bottom line? The irreducible?

The God of this expansive universe is concerned about me. He is not a God who is too busy or too important for assuring that I have everything I need for the day. Like a multi billion dollar CEO dad making sure that his grade school daughter has her coat and that she has enough lunch money before she leaves the house … so too, God is never too busy for one of His children.

Each time I look at the evening stars, I will remember, not only that He is all powerful, but that He cares for me.”

PRAYER:

Dear Father,

Thank you for your love that is exhibited each day and that I can be reminded of each evening. Your concert of light will always help me to recall that You are near and that You care about my wisdom and understanding.
