The Goal of the Enemy’s Attacks: To Get You to be Dissatisfied with what You Have

The devil’s tactic was to try to tempt the King of Kings and Lord of Lords in the wilderness, and the same is true with you and with me. The devil’s bottom line to tempt you is to get you to feel dissatisfied with what you have. If he can get us to feel dissatisfied with what we have, when we are dissatisfied, we will play into his hands. This is the same temptation he used with Eve in the Garden of Eden.

If the enemy can get you to feel dissatisfied, then you will fall! When the enemy is successful, then you begin to make dumb decisions.

Building a Foundation

Some years ago, when I was in Sri Lanka, a tsunami hit. I noticed that whole towns were wiped out because the homes were built right on the ground with no foundation. But as I drove along the shore, I noticed a hotel.

The hotel was damaged and some of it was actually washed away, but it still stood right there on the ocean front. It was right in the face of the tsunami, on the ocean itself, but it was still standing. Why? If you looked under the hotel, there were pilings that had been driven about 100 feet into the depth of the earth. Those pilings have to have been set in deep before the tsunami came. When a tsunami comes and you try to drive a piling, it is too late.

When the enemy comes and nails you and gets you to feel dissatisfied, if you do not have pilings driven deeply into your life, you will fall. It is too late for pilings.

I am going to give you three pilings that Jesus had already driven deeply.

Three Pilings

  1. “It is Written!”

Christ repeated these words after every time the enemy nailed Him with temptations. In other words, He is saying to stay close to God and His Word.

I know that when I am starting to get dissatisfied with my lot in life, with my family, when I start getting dissatisfied with my stuff and nothing is good enough … I know that somewhere, I am being separated from the Word of God. I have somehow drifted from God’s Word.

That is why the Lord repeatedly said, “… it is written.” He is saying that one piling you must drive deeply before you become dissatisfied and get nailed with the temptation that caused so many to fall is to stay close to the Word. You are not really in adversity, but to be able to handle the storm when it hits, the piling has to have been driven long ago.

The Holy Spirit knows what is going to happen in two years, next year, eight months from now. So He rewinds the tape and He highlights a Scripture for you and He starts pounding that in. He starts pounding those pilings down deep.

  2. Learn the Art of Gratefulness

This is something we have to learn because it does not come easily.

“… in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thess. 5:18).

What is God’s will? In everything, give thanks. In the midst of problems, give thanks. You may not see the big picture, but God does and if you will trust Him, you will be fine. Just give thanks. Giving thanks will protect your spirit. It will safeguard your soul from being bitter and blaming God and getting rancid in your heart. In everything, give thanks. If you do not have gratefulness in your heart, you have been set up to be tempted because you will get dissatisfied quickly.

  3. Learn to Give

Start giving when you don’t have any money. You drive that down deep when you just have a little.

Just start with what you have. It’s just like being grateful. Even if you don’t have much to be grateful for, be grateful for what you have. It is a piling that you have to develop and drive deeply before the tsunamis hit. Otherwise, if you don’t have gratefulness, watch how close you will be to being dissatisfied about everything. It will be a low-grade fever, so start to give.

    In Tithes and Offerings

“‘Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, “How have we robbed You?” In tithes and offerings. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,’ says the Lord of Hosts, ‘if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows’” (Mal. 3:8-10).

God says that if you will give even before you have much to give, you will be driving a piling deeply.

You watch what God can do as we become a people who are ambassadors for Christ, satisfied in Him. That is the kind of people we want to be.

  1. Awesome Reminder! Yes, allows one to be joyful in all things…thereby, not allowing distractions from one’s fellowship with God, especially listening to His Word!

  2. Thank you for this. The words are timely and apply easily. We take for granted the many years of having a relationship with Christ. Waiting for His return. I need to refocus and be used of God to help those who do not know Christ. Then the time waiting will be used of God.

I miss Hawaii and Ohana. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to worship with you. I thank God that I’m included in the emails!

  3. Mahalo Pastor Wayne for using this format to further equip the saints. I am so thankful to our Lord that He has placed your leadership skills here in Hawaii. It is His point of origin as He sends a “spiritual wave” across this “globe”. Doing our daily devotions in the Word, thanking our Lord daily with our mouths and hearts, and tithing monetarily and with our skills/talents are foundational in our preparation for those events which are forthcoming. The Lord is “thrusting forth” His people right now. I continue to pray for you, our anointed leaders, and our spiritual ‘ohana at New Hope. Mahalo for your desire to follow the heart of our Lord.

  4. thank you Pastor Wayne! i came to the Lord in your church and always have felt the love you have for us (and us, you) but as i grow in my walk with Yaweh, i am finding your church is what they call fluff and feel good; lacking meat and truth. i mean, why can’t pastors teach the actual birth date and surrounding circumstances of the birth of our Lord and Saviour?
    thank you

  5. Aloha Pastor Wayne,
I am not a company owner, but a leader for a PTSA in Hawaii Kai. I humbly thank you for your words on mentoring leaders. As i struggle with the trials that we (PTSA) are going thru at this time, I have put my faith in our Lord, that he may have other plans for us and not necessarily what we want at this time. But, I do know that in time, he will show us the way and when we look back, I and we will be so grateful that things had gone the way the Lord had wanted. And I/we remember the lessons learned on this journey. I/We always
try to be very grateful, remembering how lucky we are, how gracious others have been to us. And no matter what others are trying to do to hurt us, we remain faithful, grateful, appreciative at all time. And SMILE, even when the decision is not in our favor. I/We believe that if we do things with the RIGHT HEART,in the RIGHT WAY, for the RIGHT REASONS. Nothing Fails!!! Aloha
