The Power of One

There is the power of one. One person can make a difference in the whole world. Likewise, one word can change our whole future.

A name that someone gives to you or that you give to someone can also make a difference. A name can make a person feel valuable or worthless, whether it was given by you, your spouse, your parents, a buddy, a friend, or even by someone who does not like you. That can change a lot in you.

Named By Our Father

The most important name given to us will be the one God calls us. Whatever God calls us will be the most important thing about us.

Sometimes we will struggle with that name. Right now, God is calling some of us. There is a little bit of reticence because we might struggle with it at first, but the sooner we say, “I surrender,” that will be the greatest victory we will ever have won.

God is famous for changing the names and identities of people. The most important thing about us is what God says. God has three names for us. One of these names belongs to us and when God changes our identity, He changes it from the inside out. We cannot always control what people write on the outside, but His cleansing power washes the inside and He writes a new name.

Here are our three names.

  1. Sought Out
  2. God says we will not be forgotten; we will be sought out. No matter what people write on the outside, we will know that God is seeking us. God is looking for us.

“And they will call them, ‘The holy people, the redeemed of the Lord,’ and you will be called, ‘Sought out, a city not forsaken’” (Is. 62:12).

Many of us really should be dead today. Even when we did not know Christ, we have gone through things and setbacks and we should be dead or debilitated today. There have been many times God has kept His hand on you and me to bring us to this point today. The Lord says, “I am going to wash you from the inside out and give you a new name, Sought Out.”

  3. God-Guided
  4. How would you like to live a God-guided life? Instead of just rushing blind into another day, just pause and ask God, “God, is there anything that You want me to do today … God-guided?”

God wants to give us a new name, and it is God-guided. In order for us to steward what He has entrusted to us, we need to be God-guided. Otherwise, what is going to happen? What we will place value on, God does not place any value on. What we do not place value on, God places very high value.

What happens sometimes is if we do not live a God-guided life, our priorities and values will be switched; our value system will be off. We will spend our life accumulating possessions and bypass life. Our values are off unless they are God-guided. God-guided values bring meaning to our life and excitement to our soul. Then, we know we are on target. There is a confidence and an assurance that God gives to us, but only to those whose names are God-guided.

  5. Rescue
  6. Some of us are in need of a rescue. Maybe we have made some decisions and now we have to live with the consequences of our decisions. We need a rescue because we are signed Nobody.

“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not so short that it cannot save; nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear” (Is. 59:1).

God is saying, “My arm is not too short. I can reach you. It is alright. You are alright. I know where you are.”

He will rescue us if we will reach. God is saying, “I can reach you, but you have to at least reach out to Me.”
